LOW ORGANIZED GAMES
This unit allows for a fun introduction into the new year, as well as beginning to teach them the importance of rules related to safety, fair play, daily routines, etc.
Soccer
In our soccer unit we will be working on students footwork, by having them become comfortable with controlling a ball with their feet only. Specific skills we will be working on are dribbling, passing, receiving and shooting a ball. Students will also learn the importance of offensive and defensive strategy.
Basketball
In our basketball unit we will be working on a variety of skills, starting from the beginning skills such as how to dribble a ball and progressing to more complicated skills such as lay ups and free throws. Students will also learn the importance of teamwork.
FLOOR HOCKEY
In our Floor Hockey Unit, students who have been growing up playing hockey will have the opportunity to demonstrate their advanced level of expertise, while also helping students with a much lower level of experience. This unit will be primarily focused on developing students' basic level of skills for the sport, therefore focused towards the more beginner level students. Specific skills for this unit include: passing, shooting & stick handling
fitness unit
Following closely behind our most anticipated unit, is possibly our least anticipated unit, the Fitness Unit. Although it is not students favourite unit, however, it is one of our most important units in teaching students how to lead healthy and active lifestyles. In this unit students will learn the importance and benefits of physical activity, different types of physical activity, as well as a bit about their bodies in relation to fitness management.

ultimate frisbee
Ultimate Frisbee is a growing sport around the world. During this unit students will gain an understanding of the transferability of skills across a variety of sports, since Ultimate Frisbee embodies a mash up of rules borrowed from a number of different sports.
Volleyball
In our Volleyball Unit students will learn the importance of everyone on a team working together, as they learn the important role each position on the court plays in the game. Students will also gain a new appreciation for spacial awareness, as they need to trust that each position is covering their space on the court. Specific skills for this unit include: serving, bumping, volleying & spiking
Outdoor games & activities
As we draw closer to winter break, it is important to develop in students an appreciation for outdoor winter activities, so as to continue supplying our youth with reasons for spending time in nature. The benefits of outdoor activity has been proven time and time again. So during the month of December we will be spending some time playing games outside.
INDIGENOUS GAMES UNIT
In previous years I lead all the middle years classes in a number of Indigenous Games & Activities as part of the Health Week activities. I believe in the importance of our Norway House students staying connected with the incredible culture of their own Cree First Nations People, but also to experience a variety of traditional activities from a variety of First Nations cultures, so they see how Indigenous People in Canada have contributed to the world of Sports.
Lacrosse
In our Lacrosse Unit students will not only learn a variety of sport specific skills, however, they will also learn about the origins of the game and gain an appreciation for the contributions of First Nations People to the world of sports. Specific skills we will be working on are: scooping, cradling while running, passing, receiving & shooting.
Baseball
Our Baseball Unit is another highly anticipated unit by many. In this unit we will be learning and developing the basic skills required for playing the game, including hand-eye-coordination and reaction time, throwing the ball, catching the ball & batting.
